Nurse, Midwife, Acupuncturist - Cathy Mudge
I came to Exeter from Bristol to train as a Nurse and then as a Midwife.
My Nursing experience included Dermatology and Orthopaedics. I have also worked in theatres training staff in Anaesthetic and Blood Cell Salvage and in women’s health as a Menopause Nurse.
It was in Midwifery I first became involved in Pre-Conception work, it was a new field then, we ran Pre-Conception clinics for couples planning pregnancy. It was also while I was a Midwifery Sister that I witnessed the use of Acupuncture in Pregnancy and Birth. After spending time working in Plymouth Hospital watching Acupuncture in use in the Maternity Clinics, I decided to train as an Acupuncturist. I started by undertaking further training in Midwifery, Women Issues and Embryology as part of the Advanced Diploma of Midwifery in Southmead Hospital, Bristol in 1991.
I was awarded a Scholarship in 1992 by The Hospital Saving Association Fund (HSA) and with support of my Maternity Unit, trained as an Acupuncturist in London and Reading for three years. While I did have an interest in pregnancy I learnt to use Acupuncture for a range of problems in men and women.
Since I have practised as an Acupuncturist I have treated a full range of health problems from Tinnitus to Sciatica. I started my first clinic in the Physiotherapy Department at Heavitree Hospital in Exeter in 1995, I treated pregnant women and clients with joint and muscle problems.
You can see me at my clinics in Exeter and Exminster, Devon.
