Skin Clinic
As a Nurse I worked on a Dermatology ward, this gave me an interest in using Acupuncture for skin conditions. Skin problems can be treated in many ways. In the past as a Nurse I would use Tar baths, Light therapy, Antibiotics and pots of different creams. By using Traditional Chinese Medicine I can offer a specific treatment for each person and obtain similar results.
Some clients want to reduce their use of steroid cream for a skin condition and will try a course of Acupuncture while reducing the dose. Others find that during the winter a lack of sun can cause a flare up of Psoriasis or Eczema, some sessions of Acupuncture will help keep this under control. I have also helped sufferers of Acne reduce and stop long term anti-biotic therapy.
Diagnosis of skin problems are based on the underlying energy problem, the most common often being heat, this causes a flare up of skin with rashes, spots and itching. Sometimes a skin condition may be improved with treatment rather than cured, but it makes the problem settle for many months and certain conditions do respond really well such as Psoriasis and Acne both vulgaris and rosacea. There are also treatments for warts and vitiligo to name just a few.
A less common problem is excessive sweating, this too can respond well to treatments, and as with any care I give I can also help you to look at your diet and lifestyle too.
Facial Enhancement or Cosmetic Acupuncture
This is a combination of Gua Sha massage and needling with local anaesthetic cream to reduce discomfort. Gua Sha massage is used lightly on the face to move blood, promote normal circulation and stimulate the underlying collagen layer of the skin.
It helps give a glow to the skin and help reduce wrinkles in the face by stimulating collagen.
Wrinkles are needled individually to stimulate the collagen in particular problem areas, for example lines between the eyebrows and creases around the mouth. Using a local anaesthetic cream here before needling means the area is numb during treatment.
Other treatments can be given for cellulite by using cupping in areas where the problem is not responding to creams or massage. If you have a scar that has healed but left reddened, raised areas acupuncture can be used to help the natural healing process.
